For those unfamiliar, the ASSET project, coordinated by the University of Urbino and its European partners, aims to embed sustainability deeply into the curricula of accounting, auditing, and related fields.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some highlights and reflections\u2014as shared by the students\u2014that show not only what was learned, but also why this kind of programme matters more than ever.<\/p>\n<h1>What is ASSET, and what ISP 2 aims for<\/h1>\n<p>Before diving into the feedback, a quick recap:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The ASSET project responds to growing global demands\u2014from regulators, markets, and society\u2014for accountants to not only understand financial flows, but also environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions.<br \/>\nproject.uniurb.it<\/li>\n<li>Traditional vocational\u2011technical teaching methods are being enriched (or replaced) with more interactive, experiential, reflective pedagogies: case studies, role playing, debates, peer feedback, etc.<br \/>\nproject.uniurb.it<\/li>\n<li>Within each ISP, students engage in modules such as ESG reporting, sustainability assurance, management accounting within sustainability, taxation + strategic decision making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ISP 2 continued this tradition\u2014with even more opportunities for collaboration, cross\u2011border learning, and hands\u2011on practice.<\/p>\n<h1>What Students tell us<\/h1>\n<p>Here are some of the most powerful themes from student feedback. These voices underscore what is working, and where the educational experience is transforming mindsets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword\u2014it\u2019s foundational.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Sustainability is here to stay. It is no longer just a noble statement of intent \u2014 today, companies must know how to report their ESG actions&#8230;<\/em>\u201d \u2014 Santiago Garc\u00eda.<br \/>\nThis captures the shift many students feel: sustainability is increasingly central to business, accounting, auditing\u2014not optional, but essential.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Learning by doing, with global perspectives, makes the difference.<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents appreciated the diversity of peers and academic perspectives. The case studies, debates, and teamwork with people from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds expanded not only their technical understanding but also their sense of possibilities. Ant\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>&#8230;it was about teamwork, case studies, and discussions. What made it even more valuable was the feedback we exchanged, the diverse perspectives&#8230;<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Challenge fosters growth.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe program was \u201cintensive and demanding\u201d \u2014 in positive ways. Tight deadlines, difficult technical content, and the need to communicate complex ideas in English under real pressure pushed many students beyond their comfort zones. But that challenge seems to have translated into confidence, resilience, and clearer vision for their future roles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Beyond technique: people, values, and collaboration matter.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt wasn&#8217;t just about learning new accounting tools or reading ESG reports. Many students emphasized how much the human element\u2014the friendships, the cultural exchange, the shared values\u2014added to their learning. As one put it, the project underscored that embedding sustainability isn\u2019t only a technical task, but also a deeply social one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Motivation &amp; sense of purpose renewed.<\/strong><br \/>\nSeveral students expressed that completing ISP 2 left them with not just new knowledge, but renewed motivation. To pursue careers where sustainability is integrated into decision-making; to push for change; to ask bold questions. Darius Pavliukovic summed it up:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Seeing different perspectives come together was truly rewarding\u2026<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<h1>Why This Matters\u2014not just for Students<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>For universities<\/strong>: ISP 2 shows that sustainability\u2010oriented education, when done interactively and cross\u2011culturally, resonates. It&#8217;s not just about adding a module on ESG, but transforming methods and mindsets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For employers &amp; society<\/strong>: Graduates leave not only with theoretical knowledge, but with experience in grappling with real questions\u2014how to assure ESG information, how to integrate reporting and strategic decision-making, how to act ethically when frameworks are still evolving.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For policy<\/strong>: Students\u2019 demand for clarity (on ESG assurance standards, on sustainable reporting regulation) reflects broader societal demand for regulation, transparency, and accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Moving Forward<\/h1>\n<p>As the ASSET project continues, here are some takeaways to carry forward:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Keep enhancing interactivity and experiential learning<\/strong>\u2014it clearly makes a difference.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintain diversity of perspectives\u2014geographic, academic, cultural<\/strong>\u2014to push students to think beyond common frameworks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide space for reflection<\/strong>\u2014not just on \u201cwhat we learned,\u201d but \u201chow we see our role.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Intensify connection with real\u2011world practice: stakeholders, regulation, companies.<\/p>\n<h1>Final Thoughts<\/h1>\n<p>The conclusion of ISP 2 isn\u2019t really an end\u2014it\u2019s a launching pad. From the feedback of students like Santiago, Ant\u00eda, Darius and others, it&#8217;s clear that programs like ASSET are helping build a new generation of accounting professionals.
