TNE ENGINES

The project

The main aim of ENGINES (ENhancing Governance and INnovation capacities for the higher Education System regeneration) is to strengthen HEI’s innovation capacity by boosting innovation through cooperation and flow of knowledge for providing new skills and coping with skills mismatches, by designing and creating new learning tracks supporting the development of a sense of initiative and entrepreneurial mind-sets.

The focus will be on talent and skills development. The activities will be implemented in the framework of 7 WPs.

The General Objectives are:

    • To provide guide and support to both Partners and Associates for a new vision of HEIs global role and for their transformation to become more relevant, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and socially responsible.
    • To re-think, in strict cooperation with the Associates, the three fundamental missions together with an efficient and effective alignment of university governance structures and operational policies.

Specific Objectives are:

    • Increase the quantity and quality of the exchange programmes of students.
    • Increase the attractiveness of the Italian HE system, as provider of quality and inclusive education.
    • Increase the Associates’ knowledge of the Italian universities, the teaching methods and the services provided to the academic community.
    • Learn together how to improve the nature of the institutions in terms of public service and good and their capacity to balance local and global demands (number of innovative initiatives jointly planned).

ACTIVITIES

  • Virtual and physical mobility of students for attending courses at Italian universities and build up a customized Study Plan (TNE-Study),
  • Virtual and physical mobility of academic staff for exchange of competencies and skills for innovative teaching methods and contents (TNE-Teachers), 
  • Virtual and physical mobility of administrative and technical staff for attending targeted training focused on the new approach to the universities’ missions for a true impact towards a sound resilience (TNE-Advanced Skills),
  • Creating/up-dating double/multiple degrees schemes (TNE-Double Degrees),
  • Projecting multi-, cross-, and inter-disciplinary joint degrees (TNE-Joint Degrees),
  • Setting up proper strategies to use short mobilities for talents’ recruitment and Italian degree award (TNE-Study/double degree).

THE IMPACTS

The project will mobilize 300 (200 students and 100 academic and administrative staff) people towards the 10 Italian Universities and 30 towards the Associates Institutions, within an agreed scheme tailored on the real needs of the Associates and of the countries.

The planned double/multiple/joint degrees will be 5.

The Advanced Skills courses will be 5.

The expected impact on the participating institutions
concerns several levels:

  • teaching methods, learning up-dating and internationalization of teachers and students with special focus on the specific priorities and excellence of each single institution;
  • research methods enhancement of PhD students, through the involvement of researchers in on-going projects and their insertion in international teams;
  • management capacity building through staff competence enhancement and structures adaptation for providing the new services connected with mobility and academic cooperation. 

ENGINES project intends to impact also on cross cutting issues such as: equal opportunities, gender balance, social equity and brain-drain prevention.
